Cleantech scouting trip to San Francisco

The Cleantech Entrepreneurship Mission to San Francisco and Silicon Valley toke place from the 16th to the 20th of March 2015. During this week the San Francisco based Cleantech Group organizes its annual Cleantech Forum, the most important conference and matchmaking opportunity on investment and entrepreneurship in Cleantech in North America.

Goal: scouting new cleantech innovations to introduce to the European market.

Next to participating in the forum the organization offered the opportunity to interact with Cleantech corporates, investors and key local Cleantech incubators and developers. It was a great quality of Cleantech professionals and Green Innovations met some interesting people during breakfast, several networking breaks, lunches and evening receptions.

The mission is organized by DutchBasecamp, in partnerships with The Netherlands Office of Science and Technology (NOST, part of RVO), Rockstart and Climate KIC.

Program

Day 1: Starting the mission with a brunch at The Netherlands Consulate in San Francisco to hear more about the NOST and the activities that the consulate conduct.

After a speed dating session at the Cleantech Forum the group went to Accenture to hear more about America`s utility market and for an inspiring presentation of Opower (the global leader in cloud-based software for the utility industry).

Ending the first day with a Networking reception at Autodesk, leader in 3D design, engineering and entertainment software. They have an impressive office in San Francisco showcasing latest high-tech innovations.

Day 2-3: The following two days during the Cleantech Forum started early in the morning with breakfast until late in the evening with a reception and informal diners. During the day you could choose to be part of different sessions and some countries/regions showcased latest Cleantech innovations. The people that were part of this Forum had different backgrounds, VC`s, governmental representatives, entrepreneurs, professors, start-ups….

Day 4: During the fourth day the group of 8 start-ups, 2 utility companies, 2 accelerators and 2 NOST representatives visited SFCube at Sungevity who brings buying solar to a whole new level. They recently extended their business to Europe, starting in Amsterdam. A part of the group, including Green Innovations, went to Philomathia Forum at Berkeley University. The Philomathia Forum “Energy and Environment is a series of symposia on topics related to contemporary issues concerning energy and the environment”.

The evening ended with the Dutch Cleantech Night, organized by the NOST, at the Consulate were all start-ups could pitch there companies to San Francisco based Cleantech professionals, VC`s, incubators etc.. This was a great opportunity to extend our network in an informal environment.

Day 5: The final day of this mission was an intensive trip through Silicon Valley visiting Autogrid (Redwood City), StartX (Palo Alto), ProspectSV (San Jose), H-Star (Stanford University) and ending with an inspiring tour at Facebook (Menlo Park).

Conclusion
Green Innovations got in touch with leading Cleantech professionals, started discussions with new strategic partners and scouted new Cleantech innovations. We are looking forward to get back in touch with everybody we spoke and find new Cleantech innovations to introduce to The Netherlands (European) market.

We see great opportunities to support worldwide NOST and NFIA to set up sales organization(s) for international Cleantech companies that would like to enter The Netherlands.
